KnoxFleet and The People and Parks Foundation
GSK Australia is involved in a number of community partnerships that offer volunteering opportunities for all GSKA staff. Our partnerships include KnoxFleet and The People and Parks Foundation, two organisations that are committed to offsetting carbon emissions.
KnoxFleet is a not-for-profit carbon offset program, helping organisations to plant trees to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which are generated by car use within the City of Knox, Melbourne. As a volunteering partner of GSKA, our employees have the opportunity to spend a day with KnoxFleet and help revegetate local areas.
In late September 2008, over 50 GSKA employees and KnoxFleet representatives planted 2,000 trees and shrubs at the back of the Boronia site, in an attempt to offset some of GSKA's carbon footprint. The day was a great success for all involved, with plans to make this an annual event put into place as well.
The People and Parks Foundation help people to get involved with protecting our local Parks. While their primary mission is to improve people's physical and mental wellbeing and foster social connectedness through park experiences, their work results in improved quality, growth and sustainability of the parks system, including greater environmental protection and enhanced biodiversity. All GSKA staff have the opportunity to volunteer and assist with regeneration and revegetation at One Tree Hill, a location based in the Dandenong Ranges, Melbourne.
