Community Involvement

Through research and education GSK is helping combat this disease.

At GSK we are committed to improving the health of communities affected by malaria in three ways:

1. through on-going research into new malaria medicines, treatments and vaccines
2. with preferential pricing of our anti-malarials in the least developed countries and sub-Saharan Africa
3. through our community investment activities funded by the GSK African Malaria Partnership (AMP)

The AMP was established in 2001 to improve the prevention and treatment of malaria in sub-Saharan Africa. Since then we have invested over US$ 3 million on initiatives to combat the disease. Initial activities focussed on behavioural change programmes across eight African countries.

Such social change is essential to encourage people to sleep under treated bednets and seek treatment for a child with fever.
