Going bush with healthcare
Ensuring that young people in rural areas have access to health services, GSK partnered with the Royal Flying Doctor Service and the Australian Medical Association to deliver the Dr YES (Youth Education Sessions) program during 2009.
Through Dr YES, medical students volunteer to visit high school students in the bush to have open and frank discussions about the issues affecting youth health. The program complements the school health education curriculum and aims to help break down the barriers that may prevent young people from accessing health care.
“With the support of GSK, the Royal Flying Doctor Service was able to use the Dr YES program to learn more about the challenges that exist amongst indigenous youth in remote Australia and improve student awareness.”
