Australian Diabetes Educators Association

The Australian Diabetes Educators Association is Australia’s peak professional organisation in diabetes education. It actively promotes best practice diabetes education to ensure optimal health and well being for all people affected by, and at risk of, diabetes.

The Association accredits courses in diabetes education across Australia; sets standards of practice in diabetes education; provides training packages for generalist nurses, practice nurses, indigenous health workers and allied health professionals (through the National Association of Diabetes Centres, a partnership between ADEA and the Australian Diabetes Society); and supports diabetes educators.

ADEA aims to promote best practice in diabetes self management education and care.

ADEA will do this by:

  • supporting members and other health professionals
  • advocating for equitable access to quality services
  • promoting and conducting research
  • developing and disseminating evidence based standards, guidelines and policies.

In 2007: GSK provided $5000 to be a sustaining member and support the objectives of the ADEA.
