Cancer Council of Northern Territory
The Cancer Council NT is a 27-year-old non-government, charitable, community based organisation committed to raising funds for the purpose of reducing the impact of cancer. It achieves this by providing information and support for people affected by cancer. Their public education programs are conducted to increase awareness and prevention of cancer. During 2007: Through the matching of money raised by GSK staff through the GSK Ride for Life $8,000 was donated to the Cancer Council of Northern Territory’s “Outreach Program” to support indigenous breast cancer patients in their cancer journey. The Outreach Program provides access to supportive care for clients who may be considered isolated by virtue of distance or culture. The Breast Care Nurse visits communities to meet clients and provide support to them & their significant others. Culturally appropriate booklets & brochures help explain the treatments, treatment options and expected outcomes. Health care staff from the communities are also educated on aspects of the cancer disease process, the treatment options available for the client. |
