National Association of People Living with HIV/Aids, Australia (NAPWA)
NAPWA is the national peak organisation representing people living with HIV/AIDS in Australia. Through leadership in advocacy, policy, education and prevention, NAPWA strives to minimise the adverse personal and social effects of HIV/AIDS. By championing the participation of HIV-positive people at all levels of the national HIV/AIDS response we aim to build a positive future for people living with HIV/AIDS.
During 2007: GSK provided $80,000 for the following initiatives:
- Sponsorship of a HIV patient “treatment update” Roadshow. The ATPA‘s National HIV Treatments Update Road Shows are a series of travelling HIV treatment information sessions which bring important, accurate and up-to-date HIV treatment information and discussion of health management issues to people living with HIV, service providers and health care workers in communities around Australia. HIV Treatments Road Shows feature speakers on a range of new and emerging topics in HIV, presented by positive people, HIV-experienced clinicians and health care workers, including those working locally ($50,000)
- 50% sponsorship of "Positive Living ". This is a free publication developed for the HIV positive population and community sector agencies, focusing on HIV treatments, health maintenance, and HIV living issues. It is available on the NAPWA website, distributed through community newspapers, or people can subscribe free of charge anywhere in Australia ($30,000).
