This document sets out GSK's Website Privacy Statement for www.gsk.com.au ("the Site"). This Website Privacy Statement is in addition to and should be read in conjunction with the terms and conditions which govern the use of this Website.

Binding Nature

By accessing and using the Site, you agree and consent to the collection, use and disclosure of your information, but only as outlined in this Privacy Statement.

GSKA recognizes that your privacy is a closely held and highly personal value and that you have a right to control your personal and sensitive information (which includes health information). We know that providing that information is an act of trust and you have our assurance that we will take all reasonable steps to ensure your information is protected from misuse or unauthorized disclosure. Unless you explicitly direct us to act otherwise, this Website Privacy Statement will govern how GSKA handles your personal and sensitive information and safeguards your privacy.

Description of the information GSK may collect

1. Personally Identifiable Information

GSKA collects personally identifiable information (i.e. information from which you can be identified, such as name, address, telephone number or e-mail address) only when it is asked for and/or you voluntarily submit it to us on this Site. While you do not have to provide this information a failure to do so may mean that we are unable to provide you with information or services from the Site.

In some instances, the purpose for which this information is collected will be indicated when the information is collected. As a general policy, and unless indicated otherwise, GSKA collects information for one or more of the following purposes (as outlined in the Medicines Australia Privacy Information Sheet):

  • Maintaining a record of inquiries (including medical inquiries), complaints and adverse event reports relating to GSK's products and reporting these to relevant regulatory bodies as may be required.
  • Sending you material on GSK's activities and products or development in pharmaceutical treatments which may be of interest to you and tailoring marketing services to suit your needs.
  • Supplying you with clinical samples of GSK products.
  • Administering clinical trials or other research organised by GSK and which you agree to participate in or be involved with.
  • Administering conferences, symposia, expert panels, seminars or other meetings or events organised by GSK.
  • Administering disease awareness/management programs or other similar programs organised by GSK.
  • Notifying you of matters that GSK may be required by law to notify you of (eg. product recalls).
  • Managing, planning and arranging meetings between you and GSK's sales representatives.
  • Monitoring and reviewing GSK's compliance with relevant regulations and codes of conduct in its dealings with you.
  • Generating customer lists for the purposes of market research.

We may use the information to respond to your requests, improve our level of service and the content of our web site; provide you with tips, helpful information, product news and updates; notify you of new GSKA products and services; seek your views on our products and services; and for our own internal purposes. However, GSKA will only use personal and sensitive information for the purpose for which it was collected or as may otherwise be permitted by law.

However, GSKA may use or disclose other personal information about you to the extent:

2. Non-Personally Identifiable Information

GSKA also collects non-personally identifiable information in aggregate form to track data such as the total number of visits to our web sites, the number of visitors to each page of our web sites, the general geographical areas from where those visitors accessed our web sites and the domain names of our visitors' internet service providers. We use this information, which remains in aggregate form, to understand how our visitors use our web sites so that we may improve them and the services we offer. We may also share this information with other companies within the GlaxoSmithKline group and with other third parties. NO PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION IS DISCLOSED IN THIS PROCESS.

Use of IP Addresses

An Internet Protocol (IP) address is a set of numbers that is automatically assigned to your computer whenever you log on to your internet service provider or through your organisation's local area network (LAN) or wide area network (WAN). Web servers automatically identify your computer by the IP address assigned to it during your session online.

GSKA, or third party companies acting on behalf of GSKA, may collect IP addresses for the purposes of systems administration and to audit the use of our site. We do not ordinarily link a user's IP address to personally identifiable information of that user, which means each user's session will be logged, but the user remains anonymous to us. However, we may use IP addresses to identify users of our site when we feel it is necessary to enforce compliance with the site's terms of use, or to protect our service, site or other users.

GSKA is committed to protecting the security of your personal and sensitive information. While we cannot guarantee that loss, misuse or alteration to data will not occur, we make every commercially reasonable effort to prevent such unfortunate occurrences. Sharing Personally Identifiable Information with Third Parties

GSKA will not sell or rent personally identifiable information to any third party for any purpose. Sometimes selected third parties are however used to provide GSKA with support services in connection with its web sites and marketing activities and such parties may, from time to time, have access to your personal information to enable them to provide those services to GSKA. Access to your personal information

If we hold personal or sensitive information about you, you are able to access, change and update your information at any time. If you wish to do this, please contact us using the Privacy Policy Enquiry Form setting out your name and email address and the details of your request. We will acknowledge receipt of your request within 7 days and endeavour to respond to your request within 30 days.
