Heart attack & stroke

Heart attack is known as a myocardial infarction. This occurs when a blood clot completely blocks blood flow to the heart muscle. It can cause severe chest pain, often collapse and if not promptly treated – heart muscle dies (acute myocardial infarction).

A stroke occurs when the blood supply to the brain is disturbed in some way. As a result, brain cells are starved of oxygen causing some cells to die and leaving other cells damaged.

Low dose aspirin helps reduce blood stickiness (which increases the tendency of blood to clot). Low dose aspirin is used to help protect against some of the problems which can be caused by clotting in the blood stream. Use of low dose aspirin should be strictly under the supervision of a doctor.
